Runners - Kembla Grange, Saturday 23rd August
Race
2: No 6 Gallus
- 3rd
Gallus
never got on the track in his last start at Hawkesbury,
travelling three wide throughout the race and knocking
up as a result. The gelding had a better time
of it in the Hollymount Bloodstock Maiden Handicap over
1400M, racing back in the field but saving ground on
the inside. It was a good effort by the 4 year
old who gave the leaders a start on turning but hit
the line well to take third, beaten just over two and
a half lengths, his second placing in his last three
starts.
Race
7: No 12 Cajo
Kellila - 5th
Having
blown her last few races at the start, Cajo
Kellila finally got away with the field in
the SWH Business Solutions Maiden Plate over 1600M.
She travelled well in behind the speed and loomed
up and looked a good chance at the furlong when Jeff
Penza gained an inside run. Unfortunately she
was tightened for room and had to be eased at the 100M,
costing her crucial momentum and resulting in the mare
missing the place. It was another promising effort and
if she sustains this form, the four year old looks likely
to break through for her first win soon.

Race
2: No 4 He's
Good - 9th
He's Good was making his debut in the
www.theraces.com.au Handicap over 1100M, in what was
a pretty slick field of first starters. The Falbrav
three year old jumped well and raced on the pace, but
showed his immaturity by pulling fiercely and over racing.
Not surprisingly, he had little gas left in the tank
by the time they turned for home and knocked up in the
straight. It was a disappointing effort off the back
of such an impressive trial win, but the gelding is
still learning the ropes and will have benefited greatly
from the run. Kerry will see how he pulls up before
deciding on the next step.
Race
5: No 9 Shoba Princess - 7th
Shoba
Princess was looking to make it three in a
row after consecutive wins at Moruya and then Canterbury,
but is wasn't to be. After jumping well and settling
into the box seat in the early stages, a sudden change
in tempo saw the mare shuffled to the back of the field
at the 800M mark and from that point on jockey Kathy
O'Hara's efforts to find clear running were thwarted
at every turn. When the four year old finally
did see daylight, the race was over. The good
news was that she settled beautifully and hit the line
hard, being beaten by only three lengths, indicating
that she handled the step up to 2100M comfortably.
She is racing in top form at the moment, and will not
be far away at her next start.
